Juneau's Metal Recycler
Since 2009, Dan Hoffman of D&S Recycling has been the driving force in the non-ferrous metal recycling business in Alaska's capital city of Juneau. What is a non-ferrous metal...well basically it's any metal that a magnet won't stick to. Copper, Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Brass are all examples of a non-ferrous metal. These metals are commonly found in drink cans, household wiring, engines, radiators, plumbing and much more.
What's done with what you bring us?
Well, after a non-ferrous metal is dropped off with us, we have to break it down to its most simplest of forms as possible. For example, if you bring a coiled up section of old household wiring, we take the wiring and strip all the non-recyclable components from it. So basically all of the plastic and fibrous insulation around the wire is stripped, exposing just the bare copper wire. That wire is then sorted within our facilities to see that it is packaged and labeled for proper disbursement when the materials are received in Seattle. That's right, we buy, prep, sort, package and ship south all of these recyclable materials to vendors in Seattle who see that what you've brought us gets recycled at one of their local facilities.
